The Flight experience required for the C.P.L. or Instrument Rating is as follows:

• 100 Hours Pilot in Command
• 90 Hours Cross Country Flight (Pilot in Command)
• 10 Hours Night flight time (Pilot in Command)
• 40 Hours of instrument flight training (of which not more than 20 hours of the above 40 hours can be completed on a procedural training Simulator.

THE INSTRUMENT FLIGHT TEST

The Instrument Rating test must be conducted by a Grade 1 Designated Examiner (DE).

Together with the Practical Flight test, the DE will discuss various aspects of being an instrument rated Pilot and in addition will ask you a few questions relating to Instrument flying and Procedures.

Before conducting The Instrument Flight Test the student should be familiar with the following:

• The Air Navigation Regulations
• Part 91 (General Air Law)
• Privileges and Limitations of an Instrument rated Pilot.
• Understanding of the Technical and Performance aspects of the aircraft that you will be utilizing for the test.
• The Aerad or Jeppesen Airway Manual.
• The Aeronautical Information Publication

Pilots that wish to combine the Commercial Pilot Test with the Instrument Rating Test, should cover the following areas:-

• Part 135 (Air Law – Small Aircraft Ops)
• Privileges and Limitations of an Instrument Rated Pilot & Commercial Pilot.

Prior to the test ensure that the following are completed:

• Weight and Balance
• Aircraft Performance Checked
• Latest Weather report
• Carry the necessary CAA forms for the test.
• Flight Log for proposed flight.
• Flight Plan and reference number obtained.

Duration of the training course

Once the examinations have been passed the Instrument Rating practical course can be completed between 21 to 30 days.
