Night Rating
An applicant for a night flight rating must meet with the following requirements
- Must be the holder of a valid South African Civil Aviation Authority Private Pilot license (irrelevant to the amount of flying experience you have). However, it is a good idea to be current before commencing with the flight training towards the night rating.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- 10 hours of dual instrument instruction on an aeroplane conducted by one of our senior grade II flight instructors. (The above hours can be conducted during the day or night). We do however recommend that you try and do most of the hours during the night time
- A dual triangular cross country flight by night of approximately 200 nautical miles with 2 away from base landings (the duration of this flight is approximately (2,0 to 2,5 hours)
- A minimum of 5 take-offs and 5 landings by night dual (with an instructor)
- A night / instrument flight test conducted by our chief flying instructor to access your night and instrument flying ability
- All documents to be submitted to the South African Civic Aviation Authority – for the issue of the above rating.
